Kate Ravilious is the council candidate for Labour in Fulford & Heslington ward, York. She grew up on a farm on the North Yorkshire Moors, but together with her partner and two children (aged 15 and 12), has been a Fulford & Heslington local for the last 15 years. She says, "it’s been a fantastic place to bring up our children and we cherish the strong local community, the rich heritage and history of the area and the wonderful green spaces". You’ll often find Kate walking and running on Fulford Ings and the Tilmire, watching her son play cricket, taking her daughter to Heslington scouts, and - when the weather is warm enough – enjoying a dip in the ponds at Pool Bridge Farm!

Kate has a degree and a doctorate in earth sciences and she works as a science journalist, keeping abreast of the latest discoveries and reporting in national newspapers and magazines. She also runs communication and policy workshops and enjoys helping other people to realise their full potential.

In recent years Kate has become increasingly concerned with the way that York has been run. Piecemeal decision making along with a lack of vision, strategy and long-term planning has left our city vulnerable to unsuitable development, jammed with traffic and economically unbalanced with a huge dependency on tourism. She's spoken at numerous council meetings to raise these concerns, but the lack of strategic planning continues. Kate believes that better decisions need to be made for us all, so she's standing to be a Councillor with Labour’s strong, experienced and talented team in order to get our beautiful city back on track.
