City of York Council has granted planning permission for three new multi-storey car parks in the city centre. One of these - St George's Field - will be a council car park. I'm concerned about the lack of data and evidence informing the decision to build this council car park and the failure to provide a sound business plan for this venture. In April 2021 I worked with Johnny Hayes and Jamie Wood to produce an independent report on car parking in York. We produced an update to this report in September 2021. Following our intervention the decision to build this car park or not has been put on hold until the summer of 2023.
